Incorrect use of “〜が欲ほしい”
The following sentence is used incorrectly.
彼は車が欲しいです。
He wants a car.
友達は新しい財布が欲しいです。
My friend wants a new wallet.
私のお母さんは靴が欲しいです。
My mother wants a pair of shoes.
The sentence pattern “I want” is used to express own desires and wants.
Therefore, you cannot talk about what other people want.
If you want to talk about what someone else wants, say something like this;
彼は車を欲しがっています。
友達は新しい財布を欲しがっています。
私のお母さんは靴を欲しがっています。
You also cannot use words that describe actions or things you cannot get, such as “swimming,” “abroad,” “sick,” or “city hall.
Think of it the same way you would when you speak in English, “I want ~.
Also, it is impolite to say to a boss, “欲しい”
It is better to say, “いかがですか？
