こんにちは! Welcome to Day 19 of your Japanese learning journey!
Today, we’re learning the days of the week (ようび).
Knowing the days is super useful for talking about your schedule, making plans, or asking about events.
You’re doing great at JLPT N5—keep practicing, and you’ll be chatting in Japanese soon! Let’s dive in and have fun!
Vocabulary
Here are the days of the week in hiragana with their meanings:
- げつようび (getsuyoubi) – Monday
- かようび (kayoubi) – Tuesday
- すいようび (suiyoubi) – Wednesday
- もくようび (mokuyoubi) – Thursday
- きんようび (kinyoubi) – Friday
- どようび (doyoubi) – Saturday
- にちようび (nichiyoubi) – Sunday
Grammar Point
Let’s learn the particle は (pronounced “wa”). This particle marks the topic of a sentence, like saying “As for [topic], it is…”. It helps you introduce what you’re talking about.
For example:
- げつようび は やすみ です。(Getsuyoubi wa yasumi desu.)
Monday is a day off. - どようび は たのしい です。(Doyoubi wa tanoshii desu.)
Saturday is fun.
Use は after the topic (like a day) to say something about it. Combine it with です to make simple sentences. It’s easy and super useful for daily conversations!
Example Sentences
Here are some sentences using the days of the week and the particle は:
- げつようび は がっこう です。(Getsuyoubi wa gakkou desu.)
