The expression “〜たり〜たり” is an expression that mentions two or three typical things from among several things.
- Meaning: V1 and V2
- Conjunction: V1（タ形）+ り + V2 （タ形）+ り

Incorrect use of “〜たり〜たり”
Please be careful of the following incorrect usages.
I watch movies and hang out with friends.
映画を見たり、友達と遊ぶりします。 (×)
映画を見たり、友達と遊んだりします。 (○)
I read a book today.
今日は本を読んだりしました。 (×)
今日は本を読んだ。 (○)
If you want to say only one action, you cannot use “〜たり”.
If you use “〜たり〜たり,” you must choose two or three specific actions from multiple options.
But even the Japanese people often say, “今日は本を読んだりしました。” without saying the two actions.
In this case, the speaker was doing several actions other than reading a book, but omitted them, and emphasized only that he/she had read a book.
